This website offers you a free online guide to learn
how to change your PD mindset for the better.
There are very few people in the world who have succeeded in using their Mind—consciously and with intention—to bring about a significant change in a chronic and/or fatal illness. Unfortunately, a number of people do who make such claims are charlatans intent on selling you some “cure.” On the other hand, some may be “true believers” that cling to their mindset, refusing to admit that their illness has not disappeared. Others may claim miracles have happened to them, but on closer examination, most claims have not been substantiated.
Fortunately, in the last half century, respected scientists and journalists have documented truly amazing changes that have occurred in people suffering from a wide spectrum of diseases. Most involve your body and your mind, never just one or the other. Perhaps bodymind should be the word to be used. These investigators are careful not to make claims, let alone promises. Most carefully describe what they have observed and how they explain it in light of new discoveries from studies of the bodymind.
What in the past has been a subject addressed by religion, is now being investigated using the scientific method and careful cultural and anthropological documentation. This approach does not require "belief."
Mindset defined: A fixed mental attitude or disposition that predetermines a person's responses to and interpretations of situations. Your mindset is your collection of thoughts and beliefs on a given subject that shape your thought habits. And your thought habits affect how you think, what you feel, and what you do. Your mindset impacts how you make sense of the world, and how you make sense of yourself. Before shifting specific mindsets you need to learn what they include and how they work.
You have different mindsets that relate to different parts in your life. Examples include:
Health - Are health problems simply random, inevitable or maybe even punishments?
Intelligence - Is it fixed when you come into the world or can you change it?
Science - Are its findings true? Or is it more a matter of opinion than fact?
Cultures have Mindsets as well; sub cultures too. This approach to Parkinson's disease comes from the Complimentary and Alternative Medicine Mindset. Your neurologist, departments of neurology, and most PD foundations come primarily from the Traditional Western Allopathic Medicine Mindset.
- If possible, schedule your training to take about twelve weeks. - Start on a specific date of your choosing. - Don't let the training drag on. - Delete the word dopamine from your vocabulary for the next twelve weeks. - Your sole focus is to be on YOUR MIND, not your Parkinson's Disease.
The easiest track allows you to study the teaching units in any order you please. Just study the videos in each unit until you feel you understand the information to your satisfaction. This may be the only way to cover the material for people who have vision or cognitive problems.
A more difficult track includes reading each of the suggested readings before moving on to the next unit.
The most thorough track includes setting up regular tutoring sessions with me via Skype. You will also be encouraged to take videos of what you are doing in your daily life so I can evaluate your progress. Videos are critical for reviewing physical movement such as Mindful Swift Walking. The fee for tutoring is $400.
